Paula Deen is Down Home at Star

by starfurniture on September 22, 2011

We’re so excited to have Paula Deen’s furniture collection in our stores. Not only are we wild about the bubbly celebrity chef herself, but her partnership with Universal Furniture has churned out a really top-quality line. This stuff is made to look like it’s been in your mother’s home for ages – and we’re willing to bet that after it’s been in your home for ages, it’s going to look and function just as nicely as it does today.

A lot of the pieces were designed after items Paula has in her own house. During the creation process with Universal, she would tell the designers whether or not a sketch “tasted” right. They’d work on it until it was, ahem, in good taste. And they couldn’t have done a finer job! Every item is just scrumptious.

We don’t have room to talk about every piece, so we’re going to show you just one: The Lift Cocktail Table, affectionately known as “The Visitin’ Table.” It’s made with poplar veneers that are authentically Southern. If you were to visit the deep South and cut open a poplar tree, you’d see the same grain pattern in that tree that you see on this table. The multi-step oatmeal finish is hand-applied for flawless protection. (Multi-step finish means more layers, which means more protection.)

Nineteenth century details like cutout corners and turned legs mirror the style in Paula’s own home. The drawer features custom-stamped metal handles. It’s one of many design intricacies you’re only going to find in the Down Home collection.

This table’s lift feature is incredibly well thought-out. There’s a drawer underneath the lift top where you can stow remotes, home office supplies or coloring books. The inside of the table is fully finished so it’s nice and smooth, and looks good when the lift top is in use. Functionally, this is really a one-size-fits-all table.

…So come and get it, y’all!

The Down Home dining room. We’re craving cool breezes and sweet tea already.
