Bold Color Combos

by Star Furniture on December 7, 2013

Once you understand the fundamentals of color, you can begin to experiment with bold colors or unexpected combos. Sometimes taking a risk with your color palette can pay off.

“A lot of people are scared to test the limits of color,” said Designer Renae Agate. “But the possibilities are endless! Know which colors you prefer and begin experimenting with them in ways that defy “cookie cutter” interior design. You might just love the results!”

Many interior designers go by the 60-30-10 rule, meaning that they create a color palette with three colors and proceed to use those colors 60% for the dominant color, 30% percent for the secondary color and 10% for the accent color.

This is just one of the many guidelines some designers follow. However, the more you understand the “rules” and guidelines of color and interior design, the better you can break them.

If you’re looking to learn more about color, come to one of Star’s FREE “Decorating with Color” presentations. You’ll hear about current trends, learn how to handle neutrals and discover your own personal color preferences.

Below are some photos of spaces that defy convention (maybe even breaking some design rules) yet, they are aesthetically pleasing and work perfectly!
