The fifth of May–or Cinco de Mayo–commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla (1862) during the Franco-Mexican War. Many people mistakenly believe that Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of Mexican independence, but it’s not.
